The Jan. 26 headline stated that Rep. Brad Miller would not run against Rep. David Price in the newly formed congressional district. It begs the question that if the new districts are not political gerrymandering, then how come there are no popular Republicans who have to decide about running against fellow Republicans?

The answer can only be that it is the deliberate manipulation of political boundaries for an electoral advantage. Some states require the governor to approve new boundaries. Some states redistrict with an independent commission. No matter which party runs the legislature, we need to make new districts based on population changes as determined by the census.
