A 28-year-old Raleigh man was charged with first-degree murder today after his infant son died in the hospital.
Christopher Scott Childers Sr. has been in the Wake County jail on charges of felony child abuse since Jan. 21 when emergency workers were called to his home at 216-B E. Lenoir Street and found his five-month-old son unresponsive.
The child, Christopher Scott Childers Jr., had been a patient at WakeMed in Raleigh since then. He died Sunday, police reported.
Childers was being held under $50,000 bail for the felony abuse charges, a jail spokesman said today. He is now being held without benefit of bail, the spokesman said.
