The Wake County school system has begun an online survey to get reaction to a proposal that would change the school schedules for nearly all of the system's 165 schools this fall.

Parents can provide comments at www.wcpss.net/feedback/comments/ through Feb. 16. The comments will be forwarded to school board members before they discuss the plan on Feb. 21.

Under the proposal unveiled by staff this week, the majority of schools would change their schedules by 10 minutes or less. But 42 schools would see changes of 11 or more minutes. Eighteen schools would see changes of at least 50 minutes.

School officials say the changes would save up to $10 million by making bus routes more efficient and reducing the number of buses on the road.

Under board policy, the school board must adopt bell schedules by April 1.
