Tenn. State upsets No. 9 Murray State

MURRAY, Ky. -- Robert Covington had 17 points and eight rebounds to lead Tennessee State to a 72-68 victory over No. 9 Murray State on Thursday night, handing the Racers their first loss of the season.

Isaiah Canaan had 31 points and six rebounds for Murray State (23-1, 11-1 Ohio Valley Conference), which was the last unbeaten team in Division I.

Murray State has won the last eight meetings against Tennessee State (16-10, 9-4) dating to 2008-09.

Covington hit a 3-pointer with 4 minutes left that gave Tennessee State a 65-62 lead.

No. 21 Wisconsin 68, Minnesota 61, OT: Jordan Taylor scored 27 points for his first college win in his home state, and Wisconsin gutted out the overtime victory at Minnesota.

The Badgers (19-6, 8-4 Big Ten) failed to score over the last 7 1/2 -plus minutes of the second half against the Gophers (17-8, 5-7). Ryan Evans had 17 points and 11 rebounds for Wisconsin.

No. 20 Mississippi State 70, Mississippi 60: Arnett Moultrie scored 18 points, Concord native Dee Bost dished a career-high 13 assists and host Mississippi State (19-5, 6-3 SEC) easily beat rival Mississippi (14-9, 4-5).

The 6-foot-2 senior's 13 assists were the most by an SEC player this season.

Mississippi State scored the first eight points and never trailed. Reginald Buckner had 15 points and nine rebounds for Ole Miss, which has lost three of four.

No. 23 Indiana 84, Illinois 71: Cody Zeller scored 22 points and Victor Oladipo had 18 to lead host Indiana (19-6, 7-6 Big Ten) past Illinois (16-8, 5-6).

Miami 65, Virginia Tech 49: Reggie Johnson scored 15 points as host Miami defeated Virginia Tech (13-11, 2-7 ACC) .

The Hurricanes (15-7, 6-3 ) took the lead for good with a 10-0 run during a 3:34 span midway through the first half. DeQuan Jones' baseline jumper with 8:38 remaining capped the run and gave Miami a 20-8 lead.

Appalachian State 79, Furman 69: Mike Neal scored 18 points to lead Appalachian State (10-14, 6-8 Southern ) over host Furman.

The Mountaineers shot 56.5 percent in the second half (13 of 23), while holding Furman to 35.5-percent shooting (11 of 31).

Campbell 67, Winthrop 58: Lorne Merthie scored 14 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead host Campbell (17-11, 11-5 Big South ) past Winthrop (10-16, 7-8).

Trey Freeman added 12 points, Eric Griffin 11 and Darren White 10 for the Camels, who have won back-to-back contests and three of four.

High Point 70, Coastal Carolina 65: Shay Shine scored 24 points and Devante Wallace added 16 as High Point 10-15, 6-9 Big South Conference) beat host Coastal Carolina,

Shine, who made his first seven shots, was 8 of 11 from the field while Wallace hit 6 of 11 shots and grabbed seven boards. The duo combined to knock down eight 3-pointers.
