Dave Sobolewski led five teammates in double figures with 23 points as the Northwestern Wildcats defeated the Iowa Hawkeyes, 83-64, in Big Ten action at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
For the Wildcats (15-8, 5-6 Big Ten), John Shurna added 17 points, Reggie Hearn scored 16 points, Alex Marcotullio finished with 13 points and Drew Crawford chipped in 11 points.
Aaron White posted a double-double for the Hawkeyes (13-12, 5-7) with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Matt Gatens added 15 points, Melsahn Basabe and Roy Devyn Marble chipped in with 13 points and 10 points, respectively.
Northwestern shot well to open the contest, connecting on 55.6 percent of its field goals, including 7-of-15 from beyond the arc. Iowa shot 44 percent and made 3-of-7 three-pointers. After leading by just one with a little over seven minutes to play in the half, the Wildcats used a 12-2 run to go ahead, as they took a 38-29 lead into halftime.
While Iowa shot a strong 60 percent from the field after the break, including 4-of-7 three-pointers, Northwestern kept pace by making 55.6 percent of its shots, and 6-of-10 three-pointers. The Wildcats pushed their lead to as many as 24, and cruised to the easy victory, their third-straight.
Northwestern forced 18 Iowa turnovers and converted them into 20 points. Iowa held an edge on the boards, 29-22.
