Recap: San Jose St vs. Fresno State

Keith Shamburger was brilliant in overtime scoring 13 of his 21 points in extra time as San Jose State outlasted Fresno State 79-71 in a double overtime Western Athletic Conference thriller at the San Jose State Event Center.

Wil Carter had a 23 point, 12 rebound double-double and D.J. Brown chipped in 12 points for San Jose State (8-16, 1-8 WAC) which snapped a three game losing streak and posted its first victory in conference play.

Kevin Olekaibe paced Fresno State (11-15, 3-7) with 21 points. Jonathan Wills put in 16, Garrett Johnson added 14 off the bench and Jerry Brown had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds for the Bulldogs who had won back-to-back games entering play..

San Jose State led 34-28 at the break after shooting a solid 52.0 percent from the floor and holding Fresno State to just 41.9 percent.

The Spartans led by 10 early in the second half but the Bulldogs chipped away and tied the game 47-47 with 9:00 minutes remaining. The Bulldogs then scored the next six points after which the Spartans scored eight straight to take a 55-53 lead with 35 seconds left. Wills answered with a layup on the other end and both teams missed potential game winning shots to force overtime.

With the Spartans trailing 64-61 with seven seconds remaining in the first overtime Shamburger hit a three from the top of the key to extend the game.

In the second overtime the Spartans outscored Fresno State 15-7 and went 5-of-6 from the free throw line in the closing twenty seconds to hold on for the win.
