PATTERSON SPRINGS -- -- A 29-year-old Cleveland County man was killed Thursday in a single-vehicle wreck south of Shelby, the N.C. Highway Patrol says.

Troopers identify the victim as Dana Michael Blake, of Grover. The wreck happened shortly after 10 a.m., between the towns of Patterson Springs and Grover, in southeast Cleveland County.

Troopers say Blake was southbound on N.C. 226 when he apparently lost control of his vehicle, hit a mailbox, and then swerved across the road. Blake's vehicle slammed into an embankment, and he was killed at the scene.

According to the Highway Patrol report, authorities estimate Blake was traveling 80 mph in a 55 mph zone.
