ROCKINGHAM -- -- A colony of bats has been found in the exterior wall of FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital, according to a report in the Richmond County Daily Journal.

The bats were discovered after staff members reported hearing strange sounds above the ceiling tile on the second floor, the Daily Journal reported. Some of the bats have been seen inside the hospital.

Pricilla Godfrey, safety officer for the hospital, said there have been no problems for staff or patients because of the bats, but a company, Get Bats Out, has been hired to remove the mammals. The company specializes in removing bats without harming them, the Daily Journal reported.
