Former Gaston teacher charged with indecent liberties

Police have charged a former East Gaston High School teacher with taking indecent liberties with a student.

Late last year, a student told administration at East Gaston High about an incident involving a staff member and a student that happened days earlier on Nov. 29, according to Gaston County police. The administration passed the information on to the school's resource officer.

On Friday, police arrested Bradford Wayne Mulkey, 32, following an investigation and charged him with indecent liberties with a student.

Police did not elaborate on the nature of the incident.

Mulkey, an English and physical education teacher at East Gaston High, was suspended Dec. 2 pending an investigation, according to Gaston County Schools officials. Then, he resigned on Dec. 16. He'd worked with the school district since 2007.

Mulkey was released from Gaston County jail Friday after posting $100,000 bond.
