Norman Douglas Massengill, 80, passed away in his home surrounded by family on February 11, 2012. Born in Johnston County on June 28, 1931, he was the son of the late Hubert and Mable Massengill. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lynwood Massengill and H.V. Massengill. Norman served in the US Navy for four years. He owned and operated a State Farm Insurance Agency for forty years. A member of Fellowship Masonic Lodge # 84, he received his 50 years pin in September of 2010.
Norman was a devoted family man. His is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jean Rose Massengill; daughters, Renee Oliver of Smithfield, Angela Faulk and husband George of Smithfield; grandson Daniel Douglas Oliver of Smithfield; sisters, Doris Mae Summerlin of Newport News, VA, Betty McKeel of Goldsboro; brother, Theron Massengill of Surf City; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma with Dr. Dannie Hayes officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will be held in the Princeton Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 6 to 8 PM.
