Dorothy Pierce Goodwin passed away on February 11, 2012 at the Hospice Home of Wake County. Born in Isle of Wight County, Virginia, on March 27, 1909, she was the daughter of Cary Gay and Ruth Bradshaw Pierce.

After completion of nurses' training she moved to Raleigh, N.C. to work. While in Raleigh she met her future husband, E Judd Goodwin. They were married September 11, 1936 and moved to his home in the Olive Chapel Community.

She was a homemaker, a devoted wife and Mother. A member Olive Chapel Baptist Church, she was an active choir member and participated in many other activities of the church. She often utilized her nursing skills as a means of contributing to the community and serving the Lord. Her beautiful smile was a gift to others.

She is survived by a son, Gay E. Goodwin of Apex, a daughter, Patricia L Goodwin of Winston-Salem, a sister, Milderd P. Petro of Upper Marlboro, Md. and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, E. Judd Goodwin, a sister, Alice P. Uzzle, six brothers, J.B., Junius, Eugene, Randolph, Jack and Hursey Pierce, and various cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends in the Olive Chapel Baptist Church fellowship hall from 10:00 - 11:15 AM on Tuesday, Feburary 14, 2012. A funeral service will be held in the sanctuary at 11:30 AM. There will be a private graveside service at 1:00 in the Olive Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.

During her years of declining health, "Miss Dorothy" had many wonderful caregivers. It always seemed as if God placed the right people were in the right place at the right time. The family feels very blessed and is very appreciative of the care, support and love of these caregivers. The family is thankful for the many prayers, the support and love of family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, a remembrance may be made in her honor to the Olive Chapel Baptist Church or to Hospice of Wake County.
