Clay M. Kirkman, Jr., 83, of Golden Living Center Starmount, Greensboro, NC, died Sunday, February 12, 2012.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m.., Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at Woodland Cemetery, 704 W. Madison, NC.
Clay was born in Forsyth County, the oldest son of the late Clay M. Kirkman, Sr. and Janie Rierson Kirkman. He was a retired senior vice-president of Wachovia Bank. His latest position before retirement was as Dare County executive based in Kill Devil Hills, NC. Clay was a member of Clemmons Presbyterian Church, Clemmons, NC, and former elder at Outer Banks Presbyterian, Kill Devil Hills, NC. He was very involved in civic and local organizations in both Williamston and the Outer Banks. He was the primary caregiver for his wife, Eunice after she suffered a cardiac arrest in 1997 until her death.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Kirkman was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Eunice Inman Kirkman in 2006; sisters, Fentress Scott and Eleanor Rudolph, both of Madison, NC.
Survivors include his children, Clay M. Kirkman III, of Greensboro, Karal K. Googe, of Nags Head, granddaughter, Macy Googe, and brother, Dr. Paul Kirkman and wife, Phoebe, of Winston-Salem.
The family will receive friends at the home of Clay Kirkman III, 403 N. Holden Rd, Greensboro and immediately following the graveside service Tuesday.
Appreciation is extended to the staff at Golden Living Center for their attentive care of Mr. Kirkman.
