N.C. woman wins magazine honor

JACKSONVILLE -- A Jacksonville woman has been named Military Spouse magazine's 2012 Marine Corps Spouse of the Year.

Stephanie Geraghty won the honor in an online vote by the magazine's readers.

Geraghty, whose husband Brian is based at Camp Lejeune, is the mother of two boys and founder of Stroller Warriors, a running club for military moms. On the magazine's website, msoy.milspouse .com , Geraghty said she's seen her family through five deployments and three moves in eight years, and that running has helped her through.

Geraghty said the club has grown to more than 170 members since January 2010.

Voters can now choose from among the five finalists - one for each branch of service - for the Military Spouse of the Year. The other branch winners are: Air Force, Jeremy Hilton of Burke, Va.; Army, El Brown of Monterey, Calif.; Coast Guard, Jennifer Basset of Astoria, Ore.; Navy, Erin Strasburger of Virginia Beach, Va.; and Navy, Christine Gilbreath of Crowley, Texas.
