Point guard D.J. Augustin might play at least a few minutes Wednesday against Minnesota. When Augustin is ready to start, it's likely Kemba Walker becomes the backup point guard, rather than shifting over to shooting guard, as he was before Augustin's toe injury. At least that's coach Paul Silas' leaning for now.
Part of Silas' reasoning on leaving Walker as backup point is beefing up bench scoring. Silas feels that once Augustin and Gerald Henderson are back, having Walker, Reggie Williams and Tyrus Thomas as reserves makes for a dramatically better second unit.
Silas said Walker has improved dramatically as an NBA facilitator during Augustin's injury, but must improve in the off-season as a shooter. Walker was 31 percent from the field in his six games entering the 76ers game. "He's not a bad shooter," Silas said, "but he needs to be more consistent."
