MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- West Virginia University announced Tuesday it settled a lawsuit with the Big East for an unspecified amount, clearing the way for the conference power Mountaineers to join the Big 12 in July in time for football season.

Athletics director Oliver Luck said terms were confidential and the school wouldn't release details. But he said no state, taxpayer, tuition or other academic dollars will be used in the settlement.

He said the funding will come only from private sources and money that athletics raised independently. The university has paid half of the required $5 million exit fee.

A disciplinary board recommended a six-month license suspension for a lawyer whose emails to former Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel triggered a scandal that toppled the coach.

The Ohio Supreme Court's Board of Commissioners on Grievances and Discipline also recommended attorney Christopher Cicero pay $2,800 in court costs. The board's ruling now goes to the Supreme Court, which can accept, reject or change the recommendation.

North Carolina athletics director Bubba Cunningham is the scheduled speaker for today's Raleigh Sports Club meeting. Lines for the lunch meeting at Highland United Methodist Church (1901 Ridge Road) will open at 11:30 a.m. Admission is $14 for RSC members, $20 for guests of club members.

Fisher back: Jeff Fisher is back in the NFL as a coach, and back on the prestigious NFL competition committee. He was hired last month by the St. Louis Rams after sitting out the 2011 season. While coaching the Tennessee Titans, he was co-chairman in 2002-10 of the committee that reviews rules and makes recommendations on changes.

Also on the committee are Arizona Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt and Green Bay Packers President Mark Murphy.

Kansas City Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel announced the remainder of his staff, which includes quarterbacks coach Jim Zorn, who was passed over for the offensive coordinator position. Brian Daboll was hired recently to run the offense, which led many to question whether Zorn would be back.

The wife of San Diego Chargers defensive tackle and former Oklahoma standout Tommie Harris died at an Oklahoma hospital. Family friend Bill Horn said Ashley Harris died Saturday at Norman Regional Hospital. She was 29.

Horn said relatives don't know if she had a brain aneurysm or a stroke. He said an autopsy is pending. Harris, a former standout for the Chicago Bears, was in Norman with his wife when she became ill.

Horn said Tommie and Ashley Harris married in January and were planning to hold their wedding reception in Oklahoma. They had two children.

Soccer

Coach's income out: Bob Bradley earned a $400,000 bonus during the year when the U.S. reached the second round of the 2010 World Cup, raising his compensation for the 12-month period to $941,792.

The U.S. Soccer Federation's tax return for the year ending last March 31 showed Bradley with $515,647 in base compensation, $7,350 in deferred compensation and $18,795 in nontaxable benefits.

The tax return, dated Jan. 31, lists incomes for several national team players from the USSF: Captain Carlos Bocanegra ($347,583), Michael Bradley ($345,782), Landon Donovan ($342,989) and Tim Howard ($339,388).
