Two Clayton banks were broken into overnight Feb. 16, but little was taken from either business.

K & S Bank on U.S. Highway 70 West was robbed of a few hundred dollars worth of coins, and Wells Fargo Bank on Executive Drive was broken into, but nothing was stolen, according to reports from the Clayton Police Department.

At both banks, the suspect gained entry by smashing the glass doors with a stone, according to surveillance videos.

Clayton Police received an alarm call for the K & S Bank at 11:21 p.m., and officers arrived to find the front door smashed. A representative from the bank responded to police, reporting that an undisclosed amount of coins – no more than a few hundred dollars – had been stolen.

Shortly after 8:00 a.m. Feb. 17, officers were called to investigate a similar break-in that occurred overnight at the Wells Fargo Bank. The surveillance video showed that the suspect broke into the bank the same way and fits the same description as the suspect in the K&S Bank case.

Officers recovered full paper tubes of coins from the scene of K & S Bank.

Police searched the premises after 11 p.m. at K & S but found no suspects inside.

From the surveillance videos, the suspect is described as a black male of an undetermined age wearing a black cap, a black/gold coat, black pants, black boots, a white t-shirt and white knit gloves.

Clayton detectives will continue these investigations.

NOTE: Anyone having information about these crimes is asked to call the Clayton Police Department at 919-553-4611. They can also call the Clayton Crime Stoppers tip line at 919-359-TIPZ (8479) and anonymously leave information. All information obtained from the tip-line will remain confidential and callers will not be identified. A Crime Stoppers cash reward of up to $2,500 is available if information is provided that leads to arrest(s).
