Georgia Van de Zande of Raleigh has earned the Gold Award, the highest achievement in Girl Scouting.

For her Gold project, Georgia organized an art event to raise awareness of homeless dogs. At the event, she displayed painted doghouses and portraits of rescued dogs and their owners. Visitors were asked to bring items to donate to the Labrador Rescue of North Carolina, the N.C. State College of Veterinary Medicine, and the SPCA of Wake County.

Georgia, the daughter of Doug and Linda Van de Zande, was a member of Troop 664, led by Marla Turlington and Leslie Watts, and graduated last year from Cary Academy.
