HOLLY SPRINGS -- Police have charged the general manager of a pizza franchise with storing and selling marijuana in his store.
Investigators charged Benjamin H. Crook of 508 Gooseberry Drive in Holly Springs with one felony count each of possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, selling marijuana, delivering marijuana and maintaining a dwelling for marijuana, a Wake County jail spokeswoman said Tuesday.
Crook, 30, was arrested Thursday and is being held in the Wake County jail in lieu of $20,000 bail, the jail spokeswoman said.
Holly Springs police received a tip in January that the manager at the Domino's at 2110 Crossway Lane was selling marijuana from the business and from his home, a search warrant made public Tuesday states.
Investigators used a confidential informant who met Crook to buy marijuana from Domino's. The informant used money provided by Holly Springs police to place marijuana orders to Crook via cell phone text messages.
Police said the informant would then go to Domino's to pick up the marijuana, which Crook would wrap in plastic and place in a Domino's pizza box before handing it over.
The informant made three marijuana purchases. Meanwhile, police on Feb. 13 went through Crook's garbage and found empty plastic bags with marijuana residue inside and other drug paraphernalia, according to the warrant.
Police searched the Domino's and found about 22 grams of marijuana, a glass pipe and digital scales in a store locker, according to the warrant. They seized an additional 18 grams of marijuana from a store safe.
Police also found other drug paraphernalia in Crook's home, the warrant states.
