Eugene "Gene" Raymond Tomlinson, 65, of 6005 Spring Valley Drive passed away peacefully on February 20, 2012 at Wake Med.
Gene was born June 27, 1946 in Raleigh to the late Robert Bernard Tomlinson, Jr. and Ruby Stone Tomlinson. He served in the US Army from 1965 to 1969, where he served two tours of duty in Vietnam. Gene began his career in Parks and Recreation in Fuquay- Varina and continued his career in Peachtree City, Georgia. He was former Director of Recreation in Durham and was a retired Superintendent of Parks with Raleigh Parks and Recreation. He was a faithful and active member of New Hope Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and worked with the Upward Basketball program.

Surviving, wife, Kaye Williams Tomlinson; sons, Joshua Tomlinson and his wife, Lynda of Orlando, FL, Jeremy Tomlinson of Raleigh; grandchildren, Maxwell Tomlinson, Cody Tomlinson both of Orlando, FL; brother, Robert E. "Bobby" Tomlinson and his wife, Sharon of Youngsville; sister, Sandra T. Holley and her husband, Gerald of Emerald Isle.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his sister, Terri T. Ranson.
The Tomlinson family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service and Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545 and other times at the home.
