Apex police have charged a Winston-Salem man with inappropriately touching two girls when he was a coach at a private gym several years ago.

Phillip Darryl Thompson of 3712 Stoney Glen Dr. in Winston-Salem has been charged with four counts of indecent liberties with a minor. Police say he touched the girls, ages 6 and 9, while he worked as a coach at Impact Gym between early 2001 and the end of 2003.

Impact Gym is no longer in business, according to police. Police did not say what led to the charges now.

Thompson is a registered sex offender, after he was convicted of two counts of sexual battery in Lee County in 2009. His victims in those cases were six and 15 years old.

Thompson is being held in the Forsyth County jail and is expected to be brought to Wake County on Thursday, according to police.
