Stallings has chosen a Durham investigator to review a complaint lodged against the Union County town's police chief.

Chuck Kitchen of Stark Law Group started work last Friday for the town, Stallings Town Manager Brian Matthews said today in an email interview. Matthews said he hoped to get a report from Kitchen on or before March 14.

Town council members were informed early this month that Chief Michael Dummett was put on paid administrative leave after several departmental employees made a complaint against him. On the advice of the town's attorney, Matthews has declined to disclose any detail of the complaint.

The Town Council voted to spend up to $40,000 for an independent investigator to look into the complaint against Dummett, who has served as chief since December 2010 and earns $81,600 a year.
