A Johnston County judge aggressively raised bail Monday for a Johnston County couple accused of abusing a 20-month-old child.
Kelsey Janahood, 19, and her boyfriend Richard Scott Lane, 27, are charged with felony child abuse and threat of serious injury.
Deputies responding to a domestic disturbance at 6990 Hickory Crossroads Road, Princeton, Saturday night found Janahood's crying and clearly injured child, according to Johnston County Sheriffs Office spokeswoman Tammy Amaon.
Janahood and Lane were arguing outside in the car while the child was crying inside the house. Deputies found bruises and cuts on the childs face, back of the head and body, Amaon said.
Bail was initially set at $50,000 each by the magistrate, but a judge raised that to $300,000 each during their first court appearance today. The couple has been in custody since their arrest.
The child was taken to the hospital and eventually placed in the care of the Division of Social Services Saturday night, his status pending the outcome of the investigation.
