An American flag blows in the wind from atop a fence post in a farm field along U.S. 64 in Edgecombe County just yards from the Martin County line on Sunday.

I saw this flag while on a Sunday drive to Edenton. The bold red, white and blue of Old Glory popped out against the landscape of muted browns and greens and really caught my eye. The pride of the flag was evident to me. I also thought nothing could be more quintessentially American than a small farm in rural North Carolina. I made the picture with a wide angle lens.
