Rivers to speak at NCSU commencement

— Philip Rivers, the San Diego Chargers quarterback who broke passing records when he played for the Wolfpack, will give the commencement speech at N.C. State University graduation ceremonies May 12.

Rivers was the second-leading passer in NCAA history with 13,484 passing yards during his career, including 95 touchdown passes. His NCSU jersey number, 17, was retired in November 2003. He graduated with a degree in business management in December 2003.

As the Chargers' starting quarterback, Rivers has been selected to the NFL Pro Bowl four times. He threw for 4,624 passing yards in the 2011 season, including 27 touchdown passes.

His Rivers of Hope Foundation, launched in 2010, finds homes for unwanted, abandoned and orphaned children.
