Cheerleader Macon Betts, left, gives basketball player Ryan Flowers a hug and a flower as the Millbrook High School girls basketball team is introduced March 9, 2012, at a pep rally at the Raleigh school. The next day, the team won a state championship. How I got the picture -- I covered the pep rally at the school the day before the local team played for the championship. I liked the genuine affection in the cheerleader's face. I also have a special affinity to the picture because I'm a graduate of Millbrook and I shot my first basketball game in this very gymnasium -- almost 40 years ago.
