Rex Healthcare is making preliminary plans for the land near its new Holly Springs medical campus. The town council approved potential medical office use of about two acres next to Rex’s 16-acre facility at Avent Ferry Road and Main Street.
“The anticipation is that we’re just going to need room to continue adding things out there,” said Alan Wolf, a hospital system spokesman. “This is just one more piece.”
The town council rezoned the property, 617 Avent Ferry Road, from residential to “office, research and development park use,” the same as the existing hospital system campus.
Rex’s 30,000-square-foot medical building already is Holly Springs’ largest, hosting several practices and up to 10 doctors, including urgent care, laboratories and space for a mobile MRI unit.
The hospital system eventually wants to build a 50-bed hospital in Holly Springs, and may eventually add other facilities, such as a wellness center, Wolf said.
