WakeMed Health & Hospitals announced Monday that it is adding a general surgery practice in Harnett County to its Wake Specialty Physicians network next month.
The practice, called Harnett Surgical Associates, is being formed by two doctors, Tommy Chang and Sandy Hawkins-Rivers, who previously were part of Village Surgical Associates in Dunn. That office will close next month, but the new practice will retain the same phone number.
Hospital systems such as WakeMed and UNC Health Care have been rushing to buy or affiliate with other medical groups to achieve greater bargaining power with insurance companies.
Harnett Surgical Associates’ new office will be at 721 Tilghman Drive, Suite 400, in Dunn. Chang and Hawkins-River will continue to see patients five days a week and perform procedures at Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital.
