The Marcos Lightning, "Pictures for a Living."

COURTESY OF MARC HARKNESS

There’s a good chance you’ve seen Marc Harkness’ graphic handiwork over the past decade, on everything from corporate brochures to album covers and posters for Townes Van Zandt, James McMurtry and others. So it’s not surprising that he’s taking a multimedia collective approach with his new mini-album as The Marcos Lightning, “Pictures for a Living.” The music is atmospheric, plain-spoken folk-rock featuring studio contributions from members of Countdown Quartet, The Old Ceremony and other local luminaries – and Harkness enlisted artists including Skillet Gilmore and Robin Vuchinich to do posters inspired by all five songs. Music and art will both be on display Saturday at Amplified Art, 325 Blake St. in Raleigh, where Harkness and others will perform at 7:30 p.m. See amplifiedgallery.com or call 919-745-1238.
