CARY — More than 2,100 customers lost electric power Saturday morning and traffic lights were knocked out along a section of Southwest Cary Parkway after a Progress Energy electrical box on Walden Brook Court caught fire.
Police said the fire was reported by a resident who saw the street-side box burning at the front of his house.
Traffic lights were out along Cary Parkway from High House Road to Bond Lake Drive, they said.
Progress Energy said on its website that the outage affected 2,166 customers, began at 9:01 a.m. and was expected to be corrected by noon.
