Bob Garner’s new barbecue book

North Carolina barbecue expert Bob Garner has a new book out: “Bob Garner’s Book of Barbecue: North Carolina’s Favorite Food.”

The new book is a combination of Garner’s last two barbecue books but revised and expanded. There are profiles of 101 restaurants across the state, recipes and stories about the history of North Carolina’s tradition to how President Obama ended up with one of Garner’s books.

Garner, who travels the state eating for UNC-TV’s “North Carolina Weekend,” will be signing copies of his book at several upcoming events:

• 6 p.m. Tuesday, The Pit restaurant in Raleigh.

• 6 p.m. Thursday, McIntyre’s Books in Fearrington Village near Pittsboro.

• 5 p.m. Friday, Got to Be N.C. Festival at the state fairgrounds in Raleigh.

• Noon Saturday at A Southern Season in Chapel Hill.
