Learn to cook brunch

Chapel Hill cookbook author Sheri Castle is teaching an early summer brunch cooking class at Southern Season at 1 p.m. June 16.

I once took a brunch cooking class from Castle and many of the recipes became favorites in my household.

This class’s menu looks inviting: blueberry snack cake, bacon pain perdu, aka French toast, with tomato gravy, leafy greens with warm roasted garlic vinaigrette, corn pudding and lemon icebox pie with mile-high meringue.

The cost is $40. To reserve your space, call 919-929-7133 or go to southernseason.com.

Learn to make pasta

The Durham Cookery is offering a June 21 class with Carmella Alvaro, owner of Melina’s Fresh Pasta.

Alvaro sells her homemade pasta at local farmers markets but will teach you how to make your own. The hands-on, two-hour class will show you how to make a variety of stuffed pastas with traditional fillings, gnocchi and sauce.

The $40 class starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Durham culinary incubator. To register, click here.

Learn to mix a cocktail

The Durham Spirits Co. is offering a mixology class from 4 to 6 p.m. July 29.

Learn the basics of cocktail making, bar ware and types of spirits from instructor Katie Coleman. The class costs $49. Food also will be served. Go here to find out more.
