Pedestrian struck and killed in Raleigh

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a car as he crossed New Bern Avenue late Monday night.

Simmie Earl Brown, 24, died when he was hit by a Buick traveling through a green light on New Bern at the intersection of King Charles Road just before midnight. There is not a marked crosswalk at the intersection.

The car driven by Shea Demetrius Love of 2817 Poole Road was traveling 52 mph at the time of impact, according to a Raleigh police accident report. The posted speed limit on that stretch of New Bern is 45 mph.

Love, 34, has been charged with driving while his license was revoked.

Police are still investigating the accident and that more charges are possible.
