TUCSON, Ariz. — N.C. State freshman pitcher Carlos Rodon and shortstop Chris Diaz, North Carolina pitchers Kent Emanuel and Michael Morin and Duke pitcher Marcus Stroman were among 10 ACC baseball players named to the Louisville Slugger All-America Teams, announced by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Thursday.
Rodon, the ACC Pitcher and Freshman of the Year, and Morin, who leads the ACC in saves, earned first-team honors. Diaz, who is hitting 364 and has 50 RBIs, and Stroman, whose 136 strikeouts rank second in the country, were named to the second team. Emanuel, who boasts a 2.03 ERA, was a third-team selection.
Football
N.C. State tight ends coach Don Horton will no longer coach, but will remain on the Wolfpack staff as the assistant director of football operations, coach Tom OBrien announced Thursday.
Horton came to Raleigh in 2007 to coach the Wolfpacks offensive line.
He began coaching 30 years ago as an Ohio State graduate assistant in 1982. Over the course of his career he made stops at nine other schools, including a stint under Tom OBrien at Boston College in 1997.
Womens Soccer
North Carolina and coach Anson Dorrance officially released the teams schedule for the fall Thursday.
Carolinas 17 regular-season games will include 13 games against opponents who competed in the 2011 NCAA Division I Tournament.
The Tar Heels will open their season at traditional NCAA power Portland on August 17. A week later, UNC will host the annual Carolina Classic which also includes Duke, Florida and the University of Montreal. Carolinas home opener will be against the Gators on Friday, August 26 at 7 p.m.
Carolina will also participate in the Notre Dame Invitational with the host Fighting Irish, Connecticut and Santa Clara starting August 31, as well as the Duke Classic, starting September 7, with the host Blue Devils, Marquette and San Diego.
The Tar Heels will begin their 10-match ACC regular-season schedule at the Maryland on Thursday, September 13 at 7 p.m.
