Published: June 2, 2012

— Daniel Brito, 7, who was struck by a pickup truck when he turned into a street while riding his bicycle in Clayton, died Friday of his injuries, officials at WakeMed’s Raleigh campus confirmed.

Brito, of Mohawk Trail, was riding his bike on Powhatan Road near Glen Laurel Road around 4:50 p.m. on Wednesday when he was struck by a 2004 GMC pickup truck, according to State Highway Patrol spokesman Jeff Gordon.

A preliminary investigation determined that Brito, who was traveling east on Powhatan Road, attempted to make a turn and travel westbound, when he went into the path of the truck, which was heading west.

The driver of the truck will not be charged in the case, said Gordon.
