Published: June 3, 2012

— Police separated two roommates during a fight in a parking lot early Sunday, sending one to a hospital with a knife wound and the other to the Wake County Jail to be held on charges of assault with a deadly weapon.

Rony Alberto Rosa Martinez, 26, of 1014 Village Greenway, Apt. G, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

Carlos Valesquez, who shares the apartment, was being treated at an area hospital for a stab wound that was not thought to life-threatening, Cary police said.

Officers said they found the two in the parking lot at the apartments after getting a call about a fight at 2:41 a.m. They said they did not know what the subject of the fight was.

Bond for Martinez was set at $10,000, but he also was held on a request known as a detainer while federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) authorities checked his immigration status. Defendants being held on ICE detainers are not released for a time regardless of their bond amounts.
