RALEIGH — A head-on crash on the Interstate 440 Beltline before dawn Sunday closed the road for hours.
The crash happened on the westbound side of the road, between Hillsborough Street and Western Boulevard. But debris was scattered across the lanes in both directions, prompting Raleigh police to close the Beltline eastbound as well.
Raleigh police accident investigators were piecing together what happened, and officers would confirm only that there were injuries. They would not say how many people were hurt or how badly.
The accident was reported to police about 4:20 a.m. The road was completely reopened shortly before 9 a.m.
