Durham police are asking the public's help in finding this man, who they say stole meat from a Kroger supermarket and assaulted a store worker when escaping.

— Police Friday asked the public’s help in identifying a man whom a security camera caught leaving a Kroger supermarket in Durham after stuffing a briefcase with meat.

The man - white, 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall, 160 to 170 pounds and bald - left the Kroger at 3457 Hillsborough Road despite an employee’s attempt to stop him. Police said he assaulted the employee but did not say if the employee was hurt.

The thief drove off in a gray Ford Focus, police said.

The theft happened about 9 p.m. on June 6, but police did not distribute the security-camera photo until Friday.

Police asked anyone with information about the man to contact Investigator Lafferty at 919-560-4582, ext. 2954, or CrimeStoppers at 919-683-1200.
