Matthew Len Hilliard-Pinkston, 45, passed away at Duke Hospital on Monday, June 11, 2012, surrounded by family. By his side through many health challenges was his devoted and loving life partner, Gloria Edwards.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald McIver Pinkston Jr. and Snowdean Hilliard Pinkston of Durham, NC.

He is survived by his sister, Paula Dean Hart, of Raleigh; and brother, Donald McIver Pinkston III of Apex, a nephew, Donald McIver Pinkston IV and a niece, Carrie Michelle Pinkston.

He worked at Cisco and was employed by Teksystems.

Matthew loved art, cooking, photography, music, reading and spending time with extended family.

Gratitude is extended to Dr. Salama and her staff, Dr. Nelson and her respective staff for their extended care during Matt’s courageous battle with melanoma.

Matt never met a stranger and the following friends will truly miss his presence; Rosa Thompson, Janice Obie, Mazie Riley, Erroll McCauley, Elaine and Heather Goolsby, Pam Porter, Karen Green-McElveen, Frances Green, Stephanie McBroom, and Freya Mechanic.

A celebration of Matt’s life will be held in the near future.
