DURHAM — Granville County deputies arrested a Durham man early Sunday on several charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, after a car chase in which they said he rammed a deputy’s patrol car and then led Granville and Durham county deputies and Durham police officers on a foot chase until they found him at a friend’s home, Granville Sheriff Brindell Wilkins Jr. said.

Ronnie Bullock, 55, of Durham was driving a car south on Interstate 85 in Granville County shortly after midnight when a deputy attempted to stop the car because he suspected something was wrong with the car’s license tag, Wilkins said. The car sped up, and the chase began.

Bullock got off I-85 at Redwood Road, Exit 183, where he “lost control and spun out,” Wilkins said. The car then rammed a deputy’s cruiser several times before going south on Redwood, the sheriff explained. He said Bullock turned right onto East Geer Street, then abandoned the car and ran on foot.

Granville deputies, joined by Durham deputies and Durham officers began tracking the driver and found a bystander who had seen their suspect go into a house in the area.

“He went to a buddy’s house,” Wilkins said. Police and deputies arrested Bullock there without further incident.

Bullock was charged with assault with a deadly weapon for the car-ramming, driving while his license is revoked, and felony speeding to elude arrest. The deputy driving the rammed car was not hurt, Wilkins said.

Bullock was being held at the Granville County Jail on Sunday, pending a court appearance.
