John Wall, Kyrie Irving highlight rosters in summer league at N.C. Central

Published: June 26, 2012

C.J. Leslie, the N.C. State junior forward, is likely to enter the 2012-13 season as the favorite to win player of the year honors in the ACC. In the upcoming N.C. Pro-Am at N.C. Central, though, Leslie, at times, will share the court with the past two No. 1 picks in the NBA draft, and other players who were once collegiate all-Americans.

The organizers of the N.C. Pro-Am like to call it “the Mecca of summer league basketball,” and it’s easy to understand why. The league, which features eight teams, announced its rosters on Monday and, as usual, they are full of ACC stars present and past, some of whom have gone onto successful professional careers.

Former No. 1 overall NBA draft picks, guard Kyrie Irving, from Duke, and John Wall, a Raleigh native, are just two of the recognizable players who will participate in the summer league. The league will also feature some of the ACC’s most promising incoming talents, including Duke’s Amile Jefferson, North Carolina’s J.P. Tokoto and N.C. State’s Rodney Purvis.

Duke, North Carolina and N.C. State all will have strong representation in the pro-am, which begins with games on Thursday. N.C. Central’s McLendon-McDougald Gym will host summer league games on Tuesday and Thursday nights, with free admission.

Here are the current and former players from Duke, North Carolina and N.C. State who will play in the pro-am (pro-am team in parentheses):
