Connor Stanley, 10, of Garner, cools off in front of a misting fan after completing the Raleigh's FINEST 5K race on Saturday, June 30, 2012. "I sweated through the whole race," he said. "I thought that I was going to throw up." He ran the event with his parents and older brother. Despite the soaring temperatures and high humidity, 312 participants in the Raleigh's FINEST 5K turned out at Fire Station Six in Raleigh for the fundraiser. Double of the amount of water and ice were on hand in preparation of the heat. With 100 more entrants in it's second year, the event benefited N.C. Fallen Firefighters Foundation and The 200 Club of Wake County. COREY LOWENSTEIN — clowenst@newsobserver.com
