The Carolina Hurricanes have signed center Jordan Staal to a 10-year, $60 million contract extension, the team announced today.
The contract begins with the 2013-2014 season and runs through the 2022-2023 season.
The Canes acquired Staal, 23, from the Pittsburgh Penguins in a trade that sent Brandon Sutter, Brian Dumoulin and the team's first-round draft pick to the Pens.
Jordan Staal, the brother of Canes captain Eric Staal, turned down a 10-year, $60 million offer from the Pens the day before the trade to Carolina.
