For a summertime treat thats a snap or a shake to create, consider the shakerato. This gelato-infused version makes a quick yet elegant after-dinner coffee and dessert rolled into one.
Caffe shakerato is an Italian warm-weather drink that typically consists of espresso, sugar and ice agitated in a cocktail shaker until smooth and frothy. Some baristas use gelato in place of the sugar and ice, and the result is like a drinkable affogato or a cold latte creamy, bittersweet and refreshing. We like to add a crowning twist of lemon peel, which gives the drink a fragrant, citrus dimension.
If you dont have gelato available, you could try this with ice cream. Youre not limited to vanilla, either. Chocolate would be lovely, or you could make it a double with a scoop of espresso gelato.
