A lot of people are waiting on Shane Doan, including the Carolina Hurricanes.
Doan, the Phoenix Coyotes’ captain, is an unrestricted free agent, and many expect the veteran forward eventually will re-sign with the Coyotes. But there are several NHL teams lined up ready to make offers if Doan wants to move.
Doan’s agent, Terry Bross, confirmed Monday the Hurricanes were one of the teams interested in Doan.
Doan, 35, became a free agent July 1 but let it be known he would wait at least until Monday to gain more information on the franchise ownership situation before making a decision. A July 9 date had been set by the city of Glendale, Ariz., for gathering signatures to put a referendum on the November ballot concerning the lease agreement for prospective owner Greg Jamison.
Other teams interested in signing Doan reportedly include the New York Rangers, Montreal Canadiens and Detroit Red Wings.
In 16 years in the NHL, Doan has scored 316 goals and has 788 points.
