WILLOW SPRING — A 54-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a car along a dark road in Willow Spring late Thursday night.
David Burke Barbour, of 13500 Old Stage Road in Willow Spring, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Patty McQuillan, a spokeswoman with the N.C. Department of Public Safety.
A state trooper charged the driver, David Velasquez, 19, of Willow Spring, with driving while license revoked, but he was not charged in connection with Barbours death.
[Barbour] was wearing dark clothes, and there was oncoming traffic that made it difficult for the driver to see, said McQuillan, who also noted that speed and alcohol were not factors in the accident.
Velasquez was driving a Chrysler north on Old Stage Road at about 11:30 p.m. as Barbour and another person were walking in the same direction along the roads white line on very narrow grass, McQuillan said.
The right front headlamp of the Chrysler struck Barbour, she said.
