CARY — A Cary firefighter, who also worked as a Wake County substitute teacher, has been arrested and charged with statutory rape that allegedly took place in a park in Greensboro, according to Cary police.
Christopher Manzo has been charged with one count of statutory rape and two counts of indecent liberties with a minor, according to Steve Fonkey of the Cary police.
The incident occurred in June, and Manzo was arrested in Cary on Monday. Manzo is being held in the Guilford County Jail on $100,000 bond, according to the jail’s website.
According to a spokeswoman for the town of Cary, Manzo was hired as a firefighter for the Cary Fire Department in 2008 and he is still employed there.
As of today, Manzo’s approval to be hired as a substitute teacher for Wake County has been revoked, according to Wake schools spokesman Mike Charbonneau. Manzo had been registered as a sub in February and available to teach, though details of where and how often he taught was not immediately available, Charbonneau said.
