RALEIGH — Katie Grimes, a former assistant at Boston University, has been named to the softball staff at N.C. State, coach Shawn Rychcik announced Friday.
Grimes spent two seasons with Rychcik with the Terriers, one as a volunteer assistant and the second as a fulltime coach. While in Boston, Grimes worked with the teams pitchers, outfielders and hitters; served as the first base coach; and handled recruiting, scouting and summer camps.
She will handle similar duties with the Wolfpack.
Grimes played catcher at Hawaii, where she was part of the teams first-ever berth in the College Wold Series in 2010.
Duke had three players named to the Junior Pan American Selection Squad, USA Field Hockey announced.
Sophomores Abby Beltrani and Lauren Blazing, who is from Chapel Hill, along with incoming freshman Aileen Johnson were named to the under-21 roster. Eighteen women from this list will be selected to compete in the Pan American Games in September at Guadalajara, Mexico.
