DURHAM — The Durham Performing Arts Center sold more tickets than any other venue of its size in the country in the first half of the year, according to a survey by Pollstar Magazine.
DPAC, which can accommodate about 2,700 people, outranked venues such as the Fox Theater in Atlanta and the Coliseum in Las Vegas.
In addition, Billboard Magazine ranked DPAC third in gross ticket sales for venues that seat under 5,000 people.
Starting last October, DPAC put on 200 performances in its 2012-2013 season and drew 417,180 people, including 67 sold-out shows. Top selling shows included the Radio City Christmas Spectacular and the musical Wicked.
“It all starts with great shows, and for us to have two big multi-week blockbusters in the same season really tipped the attendance scale,” DPAC general manager Bob Klaus said in a statement.
