A four-vehicle accident has blocked the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 between exits 98 and 97 in Selma, according to the town’s fire chief.

An overturned tractor-trailer rig is blocking the lanes, said Fire Chief Phillip McDaniel, who added that three passenger vehicles were also involved in the accident Wednesday morning.

Three people were injured, one of them seriously, the chief said. The injured was taken to WakeMed in Raleigh.

McDaniel said he expected the southbound lanes to be closed for several more hours because heavy equipment would need to be brought in to remove the tractor-trailer rig. He advised motorists to use U.S. 301 or other alternatives to I-95.
