Raleigh man killed in crash off I-95 ramp

From staff reportsAugust 4, 2012

— A Raleigh resident died early Saturday after his car ran off a ramp from Interstate 95 onto Interstate 40 in Johnston County and crashed into nearby woods, the State Highway Patrol said.

Johnston County sheriff’s deputies said he had been speeding shortly before.

Brian Keith Bennett, 40, was driving from I-95 north onto I-40 west when he lost control of the car and it ran off the right side of the ramp, troopers said. The accident happened about 2:30 a.m.

Bennett was alone in the car at the time, they said.

Tammy Amaon, a spokeswoman for the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, said a deputy was parked along the road when Bennett’s car sped by. The deputy started out to chase him, she said, but the car had crashed by the time he caught up to it.
